Collaborative divorce

A relatively unknown method of getting divorced is the collaborative divorce method. This method originates from the United States and is also called ‘divorce in consultation’ in the Netherlands. This method involves working in a team with the divorcing spouses. Both parties are assisted by their own lawyer, possibly in cooperation with other experts. It is agreed in advance not to litigate, so that there is a strong incentive to reach an agreement. The lawyers take care of the business, legal and financial aspects of the divorce. If desired, a coach can offer psychological support so that an optimal agreement (divorce covenant) can be achieved. The professional relationships between all parties involved end if one of the parties decides to terminate the process.

Collaborative divorce

The collaborative divorce offers a solution especially in situations that are so financially and/or emotionally complex that mediation is not sufficient.
